2012 Kit Order

There will be a kit order going in again this year. As per normal there is a deadline to stick to so that we get the kit in May. I am setting the deadline as 11th Feb, which is the saturday of the second junior practice at Alcester. I havent put the order forms together yet as I'm struggling with the Kukri website on my laptop at the moment.

All playing kit will remain the same designs as last year. If you have any kit items you would like to see on the order, then leave a comment on facebook or email me at jock333@hotmail.com. I'll get the order forms ready asap.

Training Reminder

Don't forget folks that senior pre season training begins this coming monday (30th Jan) night at Evesham Cricket Centre (Prince Henry's School). Training is from 8-10pm.

What is your earliest memory of playing for the Bank?	One of my first senior games involved Mule hurling the ball into Dave Adsheads eye socket, that memory stays with me to this day. Also later in that game towards the end of the first innings I bowled at a man in his 60's wearing black leather school type shoes. Bizarre!
What is your single most memorable moment in a Bank shirt?	Hitting consecutive sixes at Draycott in NVKO quarter final 2003. It kept us in the game at a crucial time and thankfully Boyo managed to finish the job.
You had your best ever season with the bat last year, what do you put that down to?	Steve's coaching, particularly skill sessions last winter. time at the crease all season. Knowing my role in the team clearly. Set myself a personal target for the first time ever and was very determined to get passed it in style.
What gear have you acquired over the winter for the coming season?	Nothing yet but i need some new spikes.
What are your expectations for the coming season?	I expect the team to keep progressing and look forward to more young players getting a chance in the senior teams.
If you could pass on one thing that you have learned about the game to any aspiring youngster, what would it be?	Practice as well as you can as often as you can.
Will you be coming to Fuse (or Moo Moos, whatever) during the 2012 season?	No. Unless Boyo goes...

There were a few issues with the site last night and this morning which have now been sorted. This was due to a hosting site somewhere in east asia, which holds script codes for stuff on the home page, being disabled. I have now managed to find all of the codes elsewhere and there should no longer be any issues.

What is your single most memorable moment in a Bank shirt?	The coach journey home from Draycott in 2003 and the aftermath of the NVKO semi v Streethouse at home.
What are your expectations for the coming season?	Personally to score 500 hundred league runs and 15 wickets if Im allowed a bowl!!! And maybe help Baz to win the second team league which anything less would be a big disappointment. And mainly for all teams to be picked on merit not mixing and matching like last year. Finally for Monkey Boy to prove he is quality, which I know anyway.
What gear have you acquired over the winter for the coming season?	Superb GM gear. New Icon bat and top of the range pads and gloves with a classical orange trim, nice. Nike boots a little gaudy and Nike shirt and trousers!!!!!
When do you plan to finally hang up your boots?	Never. We have 4 teams so I will go on and on till the booze and fags catch up with me.
If you could pass on one thing that you have learned about the game to any aspiring youngster, what would it be?	If you dont fully LOVE the game forget it. If you do then develop a perfect forward defensive.If you do then you can always bat long.
Will you be coming to Fuse during the 2012 season?	Not a chance in hell as I need to be sober on Sunday mornings to make sure we get teams on the pitch later in the day.

Bank 3rd's & 4th's On The Way Up

Due to Monmouth CC dropping out of the Worcestershire Cricket League at the last minute to join a league a bit closer to home, The Bank's 3rd and 4th XI's have found themselves moving up the leagues. Monmouth 1st's and 2nd's were playing in Division 2, so they have left a gap meaning teams from the lower divisions have had to move up to compensate.

Luckily for the Bank, Division 5 is a league that requires you to have a 1st and 2nd XI, so our 3rds have moved into Division 5 to play, effectively, as a 1st XI and the 4th XI have moved up to the parrallel Division 5 2nd XI league, if that makes any sense? Basically, it's a big and important step up for the club.

I've been told this is all confirmed, apologies if it isn't.

Reminder that Winter Training starts on Saturday 4th February and will run for 9 weeks. It is to be held at indoors at Alcester Grammar School.

Times:

09:00 - 10:00: U10's & U11's
10:00 - 11:00: U12's & U13's
11:00 - 12:00: U14's, 15's & 16's

Sadly, due to available space and the nature of the training, we cannot include the rookies section in our winter training programme as a group. The coach may contact you directly if he wishes to ask you along to the sessions to train with the U10's & 11's.

Charges are £27 per person for the full 9 weeks. [Cheques made payable to Astwood Bank CC.]
Or you can pay £4 per session.

Christmas Challenge

Whilst most of us were sleeping our Christmas turkey and drinks off two of our younger teams used the 28th December to hold an indoor match at Kingsley Sports Centre.

Last seasons U'11 County Champions played our new Under 10 team. The new Under 10 team have been training once a month as they prepare for the new season. The game proved a great encounter with the U'l0s matching their older contemporaries with their bowling and fielding. The Under 11's took the honours mainly through there strong batting by 34 runs.

It was great to see last years softball team showing their talent against the older lads. Jake Browning had a great all round performance whilst Jo Maddocks could be a great find with his wicket keeping.

We do need to mention Coach Barrington who bowled the most wides in the game as he stepped in at short notice !!

All the boys had a great session and all are eager to start the sessions at Alcester on 4th February.

Bank youngsters celebrate Winter County Selection‏

Astwood Bank Cricket Club were celebrating this week when a record number of the clubs youngsters were selected by Worcestershire County Cricket Club to be part of their Winter Development Squads. The youngsters selected have been through a district and county trials process over 4 weeks. With a maximum of twelve places in each age group the places are extremely sought after and it is a great honour to club to be so well represented. Among those selected is Flynn Duggan from Walkwood Middle School who was selected for the Under 11's squad despite being still Under 10. Flynn captained the clubs Under 10's to win the County Cup last season aswell as playing for the clubs U'11 County Premier League Champions.

Senior Pre Season Training

Happy New year to you all and hopefully everyone had a good christmas.

As we turn the corner into 2012, the fixtures are out and its time to start thinking about the coming season. Some of the bowlers have already started working at Edgbaston which will continue into Feb, while as per previous years we will be having club training at Evesham on a monday evening. These sessions begin on Mon 30th Jan and run from 8pm-10pm untill Mon 2nd April.

Bank Crash Out

The Bank had an unsuccessful climax to the indoor league season crashing out to neighbours Feckenham in the semi finals. Bank were inserted to bat first and got off to a dreadful start losing wickets early. We did manage to post a final tally of 122 though which is probably one of our highest totals this year, thanks to Badger and Statto mainly.

Fielding though was to be our downfall, with a number of half chances of run outs turning into vast amount of over throws and arguments, putting Feckenham in the driving seat. In the end, Feckenham's batting performance was too good for the Bank on the day and they progressed though with an over to spare, although they did have a mini collapse at the end which almost made it interesting.

I have no idea who won the final.

H&W Sports Partnership Nomination U11's

Astwood Bank Cricket Club U'11 were recognised for their fantastic season by being nominated for the Hereford and Worcestershire Sports Team of Year. Members of the team had a wonderful black tie evening at Sixways, Worcester where they represented their own club and also cricket as a sport in Worcestershire. Whilst they did not come away with the award they recognised by the awarding group for an amazing season.

This season the team represented the club in the Worcestershire Cricket Board (WCB) U'11 Premier league, having been promoted from the WCB east district the previous season. The league is made up of 6 teams qualified from the individual districts in the county, the matches played on Sunday mornings are a 20 over format with players retiring on 30+ & a maximum of 4 overs per player. Astwood Bank went through the season undefeated wining 10 out of 10 matches & finishing on 60 points, second place Ombersley CC finishing on 36 points. The Premier league posed a challenging step up in the quality of opposition from the previous season but with the lads dedication to training and uptake of new skills they were able to overcome the challenge to excel.

The junior section at the club had fantastic year with ex Worcestershire wicket keeper Steve Adshead as club head coach. Other highlights included the Under 10's winning the Terry Birt County Cup and the Unders 9's finished County runners up in the Softball. The U'10's victory was worthy of note, three of the team were actually Under 9, and 9 of the 16 overs in the Final were bowled by these younger lads. Plenty of promise at Astwood Bank for future you would have to think.

Indoor League Finals Night

Bank are playing at the Indoor League finals night for the third consecutive year this Tuesday (13th Dec). We play Feckenham in the first semi final starting at 6:45pm. It takes place at Prince Henry's School in Evesham if anyone is interested in coming to support the lads.

Bank Top Indoor League Group

Bank top indoor league table and progress to the finals night with a semi-final tie against Feckenham at 6:45 next tuesday. The other semi-final see's Alcester & Ragley face Harvington.

Bank will be hoping to retain the trophy that they have been in posession of for the past 2 years. Bank topped the table after defeating Alcester & Ragley in the final game with some strong batting performances from Badger and Jock and some excellent bowling from Pest backed up by solid displays from the rest of the lineup. Skipper Badger must now make some tough decisions to choose the finals night team with a number of players contributing to the teams success over the past couple of months...

The 2011 saturday 2nd XI captain Paul Daws has stepped down for the 2012 season and will be replaced by former 3rd XI captain Chris Hancox. Chris was the 2nd XI captain for the triumphant 2005 season when the Bank won the division 1 title. He will be hoping he can spark the side back into life after a rebuilding season last year saw the side finish in mid table.

What's Going On?

Whilst most indulge in other sports during the winter or just generally have a break from cricket, there have been plenty of people involved in cricket in one way or another over the past couple of months. There were even as many as 6 people using the outdoor nets at the club in late November!

The seniors have been taking part in the indoor league and are heading to finals day for their third successive season hoping to retain the title for the third time. The team is captained by excentric veteran Paul Boycott. There has also been bowling coaching for 9 of the clubs bowlers conducted by Lloyd Tennant who currently coaches bowling at Leicestershire and for England U19's.

That's the stuff that i know is going on. I also believe that the U10's have been training regularly, as have the ladies and i understand that there have been trials for either winter county or district squads.

There you have it, another very loose summary of what is happening. If anyone does have any other news please get in touch.

U10's Update

Next years Under 10's reported back to training on Saturday at Kingsley Leisure Centre. This was the first of three pre Christmas sessions as the boys prepare for next season. With four of last years County Cup winners still available to play U10's again next season along with some promotions from the Rookies and Softball teams the team could develop well again.

As updates are becoming a little thin on the ground during the off season, i thought i'd give you a little update as to what has been happening of late.

The season ended with our now annual friendly against Harvington, which for the first time (i think) we lost. We welcomed back our brightest talent of recent years Tom Underhill for this one, following a season at Birmingham League Division 1 side Evesham.

Just a week later, the indoor cricket league at Evesham started. We are now four games in to the league and The Bank have won all four games, and won a fifth (friendly) against Harvington. League victories against Feckenham, Offenham, Harvington and Badsey put the Bank top of the table.

The Annual dinner was last weekend at Redditch Golf Club. Once again there was an excellent turnout from across all sections of the club. Awards were (as i remember anyway, so these could easily be wrong!):

Worcestershire U’10 County Cup Final – Bank take County Cup

Astwood Bank U’10 were crowned County Champions on Sunday after beating Old Elizabethans (OES) in a serious close encounter by just 5 runs.

After winning the toss OES were very much restricted in their sixteen overs scoring just 87 which was reduced to 47 as they lost 5 runs for each of the eight wickets they lost. All the bowlers contributed with Thomas Yapp taking 2/8, Safi Mahmood 2/14 and Flynn Duggan 1/14.

Astwood Bank started well as normal in their reply scoring 25 from the first pair of Josh Baker and Safi Mahmood. Baker was on fire hitting some fantastic shots. The second pair of Henry Sherrington-Lodge and Thomas Yapp started strongly but were rocked back losing two wickets in bring OES back into the game. The final two pairs were forced to face Matthew Davis, the fastest bowler in the County, who rattled the Astwood Bank batsmen who fought strongly. Eithan Cook and Alex Waplington both contributing to take Astwood Bank closer to victory.

The last pair of Flynn Duggan and Ryan Theron faced the final onslaught of the OES bowlers yet stood firm to take Astwood Bank to the verge of victory. With 6 balls remaining a wicket would have swung the match completely however Duggan played off the over with complete calm.

This victory is a wonderful achievement for the club who have worked very hard to develop so many good young players.

Mexican Themed Evening

following your great support and the roaring success of our recent ladies/cocktail evening, the First XI would like to invite you, your partner, friends and family to come and help celebrate the season drawing to a close with a Mexican themed evening of Food, Cocktails and Shooters to be held at the club after the last 1st team home game on Sat 3rd September from 8pm till late. The Junior awards night is scheduled for Friday September 9^th and will be held at the cricket ground. After last years “overspill” at the White Lion – we have decided to hire a marquee and have a pig roast to help the night go well. The event will be timed along the lines of a normal Friday night practice (these are just rough times) –

Activities between 6.30 and 7.30 (indoor/outdoor games)

Start awards ceremony about 8.00

Complete evening awards about 9:00 but evening will continue for those wishing to stay.

ABCC Annual Golf Day

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – Friday 16th September 2011.

This is the 5th year that, Astwood Bank Cricket Club is holding a golf tournament. This year it will be again, an open event – with everyone is welcome. The activities this year will include 18 holes of team golf in the afternoon followed by an evening meal

The part parkland and part woodland course of Redditch Golf Club is universally acclaimed for both its topography and the quality of its playing surfaces. The greens are particularly outstanding, all 18 having been re-laid during 1995 and 1996 under the direction of the Sports Turf Research Institute.Visitors will either curse or cherish the memory of the meandering stream of the dog leg par four 12th, depending upon how well they played it. Similarly with woodland holes 14 through 17; a true test of golf. This eighteen Hole par 72 course is nearly 6500 yards in length and presents a challenge to golfers of all standards.

We have booked 40 places – these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. So please make sure you register as soon as possible.Tee times have been booked from approximately 12.30 pm. Bar snacks will be available to purchase at the club house before the start.

U10 County Final

This Sunday see the clubs Under 10's head to New Road for the County Final. Play commences at 3.45pm and every one is welcome to attend.

The boys will be netting at the club in the morning before heading off to New Road. Sadly with the date of the Final being moved the team will be without three of their regular players and coach due to holidays.

Marcus Cook will lead the team with Simon Maddocks supporting.

ABCC v Stourbridge (2nds)

Stourbridge arrived at Sambourne Lane at the meet time of 12pm to be greeted by only rain and Dawsie. Statto and Sammy Thomas were next to arrive just about on time. Everyone else was majorly late (Baz and Haines did tell me). Not good enough. There are jobs to do before a game and I'm not doing them all!! Plus its embarassing to be sat with all the opposition when your own team hasn't arrived.

Rain meant a delayed start and a reduction to 42 overs per side. Gimpo lost the toss and unsurprisingly was invited to have a bat. He opened with Baz who had kindly decided to take a drop in standard to play 2nd team cricket. He was 1st out, snicking Winders behind for 1. Daws looked solid before getting a beauty from Winders and being cleaned bowled for 11. With the score at 17-2 Thomas and Statto then batted brilliantly and put on 160 for the 3rd wicket before Thomas was out for a stylish 66 trying to smash Wood out the ground. Statto carried on playing positively and played the dangerous Irfan expertly. He brought up a superb 100 in the 37 over before playing one shot too many and was bowled by Wood for a brilliant 106. Wickets fell as The Bank chased late runs and they finished on a pretty good 227-6 in their 42 overs. The biggest disappointment for the crowd being that Mo Prescott only got 5 overs to bat. He fell just short of his century making a swift 8.

Tea was as good as ever, many thanks to Jules Alexander for that. And thanks to Steve Haines who re-painted the crease lines. Perky obviously having had one too many scrumpy’s, had painted 2 creases at the same end!!

Biddle and Willets opened against Harber and Joel Haslam. An opening attack with a combined age of 29!!! Willets was particularly positive and found the boundary on numerous occasions. Rocket replaced his brother and Statto replaced Harber who hadn’t had much luck. Rocket swung one back through the defences of Biddle to pick up ABCC’s first wicket. Statto bowled tidily (5-1-14-0) but was replaced by Haines as ABCC looked for elusive wickets. Rocket bagged another thanks to a sharp stumping by Gimpo, this time the crucial wicket of Willets who had played nicely for 51. Wood joined the impressive looking Mantom at the crease. Both batted well and although unorthodox Wood kept finding the boundary much to Haines’ annoyance. At drinks Stourbridge were well on their way with the score 120-2. ABCC had fielded well but a bit of a re-group was needed. After drinks Haines bowled a great spell and on another day would have had a bag full. He narrowly missed the stumps on 4 occasions as Stourbridge failed to cope with his pace and swing. Oddly enough it was one of his worst balls that bought the next wicket. A massive legside wide was brilliantly stopped by Gimpo at full stretch behind the stumps. Thinking it hadn’t been, Mantom called Wood through for an extra, Gimpo gathered the ball and threw the stumps down with a rocket throw. Mantom gone for 19. This was just the fillip that the Stiffs needed as they continued to build pressure on the Stourbridge batters. With the rate now at 6’s and the score at 170-3, Haines then had Wood bowled for a good 51. Sam Thomas meanwhile was bowling a nice little spell at the other keeping things tight and he soon trapped Ross leg before. With the rate rising and wickets falling the pressure was on Winders who had batted well. Needing 8 an over off the last 4 he snicked off to Gimpo from Haines for 36 and Stourbridges hopes were dashed. With a sensible field Stourbridge were contained and finished on 222-6 from their 42 overs. Falling only 6 runs short of their target. A great positive result for the Bank against a good Stourbridge xi and a brilliant performance in the field by the youngest 2nd team I’ve ever seen. Great effort boys, just turn up more promptly please.

4th XI Season

Well done to the 4th team. Great league season culminating yesterday in winning a must win game. Unfortunately yet another conceded game (19 in our league this year - 3 out of 4 games yesterday) by Nomads handed the 24 points that Stourport needed to seal 2nd place. We finish 6 points behind Stourport who have benefited from 3 conceded games. We have had no games conceded to us and we have not conceded a game. We won or had a winning draw more times than anyone else in the league losing just twice. This with a team of mostly 14, 15 and 16 year olds, with a captain in his first season. Very proud of all that have played for the 4ths, the futures bright, the futures the 4th team

Astwood Bank Under 10’s Heading to New Road for County Final

Astwood Bank Under 10’s will be heading to home of Worcestershire cricket at New Road on the 28th August after recording a convincing County Cup Semi Final win away at Swindon.

After winning the toss and inviting the home team to bat, Astwood Bank quickly tied Swindon back with Safi Mahmood and Josh Baker bowling particularly well in the early stages. Eithan Cook and Flynn Duggan were also taking valuable wickets for the team. Henry Sherrington Lodge had another fantastic game as wicketkeeper.

Chasing 42 to win, Josh Baker and Saffi Mahmood gave their team another great start scoring 27 from the first four overs. The role of these two in the team can’t be underestimated as they generally face the best bowlers in every game. Thomas Yapp and Henry Sherrington Lodge wasted no time in pushing Astwood Bank towards the winning total with Yapp hitting a massive six.

It would have been easy for the Astwood Bank youngsters to lose concentration given how fast they were scoring however the last two pairs of Eithan Cook & Alex Wapplington and finally Flynn Duggan and Ryan Theron guided Astwood Bank to a handsome total of 305 and a wining margin of 64 runs.

The lads can now look forward to playing where the likes of Bradman, Graveney and Hick have all played.

ABCC v Colwall (2nds)

On a sweaty day ABCC stiffs welcomed a resurgent Colwall team that had taken 88 point from their last 4 games.

After the debacle of the Nomads batting performance the previous week Captain Daws was glad to welcome Perkins, AJ and Sealey to bolster the average age of the team as well as the batting line up.

Gimp lost the toss and Colwall decided to have a bat. After a 12 year rest Churchley was asked to open the bowling with Adam watson. Watson struggled to find his stride on the ladies pitch and Miles was introduced after 10 overs. This worked well with Churchley's accurate dobbers tying the batsman down while Milo tossed them up. With the run rate stifled it was a run out that brought Bank their 1st wicket, affected finally by Milo. Hankins batted well and soon passed 50 before a smart fielding change meant a changed shot and he was well caught by Perkins off the bowling of Milo. AJ had replaced the tidy Churchley who was unlucky not to pick up some early wickets. AJ worked his way through the Colwall top order and would have claimed his 6th wicket with his last delivery had Milo been fielding inside the circle where he shoud have been!! Haines picked up 2 wickets as Colwall finished their 50 overs on 223-9. AJ finishing with figures 16-5-70-5.

Tea was enjoyed by all while Gimp picked the batting order out the hat. AJ opened with Perkins and was soon on his way back. Sealey joined Perkins and the pair took the score from 5-1 to 70-2 when Perky smashed a long hop at cover for 34. In a Lords reunion Sealey was joined by Churchley. The 2 veterans showing their class to get the Bank over the 150 mark. Bishop was brought into the attack and bowled some awkward deliveries. Sealey was now at his glorious best but appeared in some discomfort seemingly suffering from jock rot. He soon came a cropper as he tried to bash Bishop once to often.

The in-form Humby and Churchley finished the job splendidly with 14 overs to spare, Churchley finishing 50* and Humby 40*.

Under 12’s Triumph in six-a-side

The Bank under 12’s returned home with the trophy after a late invitation to Harvington CC annual six-a-side competition.

They beat Bretforton in the 1st group game limiting them to 23 runs in their 5 overs, and knocking of the runs in 13 balls.

In the second group game they limited Exhall & Wixford to 16 runs of their 5 overs with an excellent bowling performance, and then knocked the runs off needing only 9 balls

In the semi-final Bank batted 1st scoring 49 off their 5 overs, and after an early scare restricted Bidford to 43 off their 5 overs

Harvington were the opponants in the final, Bank scored 41 off their 5 overs with harvington reaching 24 in their innings.

The lads performed excellently with bat and ball and ran out worthy winners.

County Runners Up for the Bank

Astwood Bank Under 9’s clinched the County Runners Up spot in the Worcestershire County Softball Finals days played at Halesowen on Sunday in beautiful sunshine. The team had qualified for the Finals day by winning their group with 10 wins from 12 games.

Astwood Bank started slowly and the eventual winners Oldswinford took advantage to beat Astwood Bank by 19 runs. Coach Simon Maddock rallied to troops as the Bank beat a highly rated Penn team by a convincing 51 runs with an inspired team performance.

With one game remaining the Astwood Bank needed to beat Swindon to clinch the Runners Up position. Astwood Bank scored a strong 261 runs with Jo Maddock, Flynn Duggan and Jake Browning and hitting big boundary shots.

Swindon started very strongly in reply scoring 19 runs in the first 2 overs. Astwood Bank continued to take some superb wickets including taking a couple of fantastic catches. With one over remaining Swindon needed 7 off the last over but Flynn Duggan ensured there was no last over heroics by bowling 6 fast balls and taking one wicket to clinch the victory by Astwood Bank.

This rounds off a fantastic season for the boys and they will be a team to beat next season.

Bank U10's Take League Honours

Astwood Bank Under 10’s were celebrating this week after clinching the East Worcestershire League title.

The team have recorded 7 wins and 1 loss in a fun packed and busy season which has seen the squad develop quickly. What is even more remarkable that five of squad are aged Under 9 and will represent the club in the same age next season.

Captain Flynn Duggan lead the way with the bat averaging 107, whilst Safyan Muhammed is the leagues leading wicket taker with 8 wickets.

The team will now progress into the County Semi Finals when they will visit Halesowen or Swindon.

Beer Festival

The Bank is hosting its first ever (to my knowledge) Beer & Wine Festival on friday 22nd July. The bar will be serving from 5:30pm onwards and the place will have to be drunk dry over the course of the weekend so don't hold back! There are a host of guest ale's on and plenty of food to go with as well. Whatever isn't drunk on Friday night will be available all day on the Saturday when the 1st XI take on Worcester Nomads at home.

Astwood Bank U'9s take League Title in 1st season

The lads did really well again this Sunday winning 2 out of 3 games, leaving us with 10 wins out of 12 games to finish as league winners. A fantastic effort to the lads who played, parents and coaches.

Unfortunately we only had 7 players as Jake Browning was sidelined tonsillitis after a trip to primary care. Joseph was captain and won all tosses and chose to bat every time, clearly liking to bowl against a target. Matt Yapp, Alfie, and Joseph really showed the way across all games with consistent bowling and batting. Personal best performance from Padraig, Luke, and Tobin, who improve every time. Special mention for Matt Harland who played superbly for his first competitive game, batted and bowled well and took a great catch, one to watch.

Baz's Barmy Army had a trip to Hallow this week against title contenders Hallow after the poor show from the week before at West Malvern the 3rds were left in the relegation zone, with the Nomads and Hewell having a game in hand on the 3rds we were in need of some points and quickly.

Captain Baz had some how managed to drag himself to the wicket with his very badly bruised hand which he had injured the week before catching a dolly at mid wicket!! Would he be able to toss the coin the team were concerned!! Well it obviously effected his performance and he lost the toss and Skipper Hayes ask the Bank to have a bowl!!

The conditions were muggy and the wicket was very under prepared with a lot of uneven bounce. Bevo was keeping in his first game of the season for the 3rds and the whole team were just waiting for his first strop of the afternoon. Pest opened up and bowled very good areas and the Hallow openers of Fowler and Hayes found it very difficult on a bowler friendly wicket. Haslam J opened from the other end and both bowled well using the pitch to his advantage without much luck and Hallow how scratched there way to 40 before Pest struck Hayes pushing forward nicked one behind and was caught one hand by DOC at full stretch above his head, in normal circumstances would have been catch of the day but not today.!! Haslam J finished his 5 over's and was replaced by DOC who was under some pressure to deliver after his woeful performance the week before. His first over going for 9 was not what was required and the team were starting to think here we go again!! Mo deservedly replaced Pest the other end after his good spell the week before and he didn’t disappoint firstly removing opener Fowler who played on and then had new bat Hodgeson caught behind with an absolute belter in front of first slip from promising Under 12's county keeper Bevo. DOC then finding the consistency in his length that was missing the week before cleaned bowled skipper Hayes playing a horrible cross lined shot. Hallow now in all sorts of trouble at 66-4. Mo and DOC continued to bowl at the Hallow batsman who were just swinging at anything The Bank needed to keep there composure!! Lets just say the next dismal was more down to Harvey than DOC. Pest deciding we need a mid wicket removes Harvey from slip DOC bowls the ugliest of half tracker's Strange absolutely middle the pants of it and Harvey took one of the sharpest one handed catches you will see. However Still DOC's wicket in the book!! (Well held Craig!! ) Bank in the huddle now having Hallow 82-5 convinced themselves we would have them all out for a 100, Then this voice from the water boy (Sorry not the water boy it was the skipper who was fielding at fine leg both ends protecting his poorly hand) says they bat all the way down lads still need to keep at it!! This bought the other Murphy to the crease and the two brothers were not going to leave the pitch wondering and they really set about there task with some big hitting. Mo was replaced by The Doctor we want talk about his first over but his 2nd over saw him remove the hard hitting Murphy caught by bucket hands Harvey at deep mid wicket. Murphy was replaced by his dad and he clearly told his son to calm down a bit and his slogs had now calmed down and he had returned to convention batting. DOC had bowled out and finished with 12-1-40-2 and was replaced by Haslam J and The Doctor was replaced by Vanner. Joel continued to bowl accurately and the Father and Son struggled against him. Vanner bowled an over on what was clearly not his wicket so Pest returned to the attack. Haslam J continued to bowl in good areas and was eventually rewarded removing Father Murphy caught at backward point by Bucket Hands Harvey!! Hodgets went the same way bowled Haslam Caught backward point by Bucket Hands Harvey as did Whittenbury bowled Haslam Caught backward point by Bucket Hands Harvey. Haslam finished with excellent figures of 10-1-31-3. Pest then finished with 12-3-21-1 and The Doctor bowled the last over which saw the young Murphy bring up a well deserved 50 with Hallow finishing on 212-9!! On another day Hallow could have been out for 150 but the young lad batted well and finished on 55 not out. A special mention must go to Craig with 5 catches in an innings especially after the abysmal drop the week before whilst keeping. The Team have agreed never to let the guy put on the gloves again!! Oh and the Skipper will sulk if I don’t mention he did fine leg both ends so he could play!

Still tea was taken and with The Bank batting all the way down 212 was a getable target !!

Baz opened up with 3rd Team debutant Adam Laight after some good scores in the 4ths Adam deserved his chance and didn’t disapoint he look very steady and made batting look very easy on the bowler friendly wicket. After seeing the first few over's off Adam started to play his shots and was clearly in control. The team sat back and was quite confident the openers would be in for a while. Then a bit of an unfortunate bounce Adam looped one up to cover and was out for 16, Bank 29-1. Vanner surely due a good score again looked steady and Hallow were starting to feel the pressure. The loopy spinner Murphy was brought into the attack to buy a wicket and Vanner didn’t disappoint giving the Keeper a bit of catching practice of his first ball 50-2. The Bevmister was back after a bit of a shakey start getting used to holding a bat he was soon in his stylish rhythm and stroking the ball around nicely. Hallow brought on the experienced Whittenbury who bowled very steady and just put the ball in the right area which started to slow the scoring down. Bank now needed to move the score on a lot quicker if we wanted a result from the game, Bevo started to play his shots then disaster strikes as his plays one on from Whittenbury out for 31 Bank 103 -3. Skipper calls for the big hitting Harvey much to the discussed of Mo who throws a mini tantrum as his pads go into the near by trees. Harvey wasn’t going to hang around and started to hit the ball straight away before being bizarrely stumped of the last ball of Whittenbury's spell for 15, Bank now 142-4 needing 9 an over of the last 8 over's DOC was pushed ahead of Mo!! After a shakey start he started to middle the ball his first 6 going into a locals garden causing a bit of a fracas. Pest and Bevo then got into a bit of an exchange with the local Pikey and some how fisty cuffs were just about avoided. Hallow were now starting to panic and the over rate was coming down. The Skipper had started to tea off and all was going to plan then disaster the half tracker that should of gone out of the park was missed by DOC and clipped his off stump on the way down. Bank 174-5 DOC out for 21. It was now left to the Skipper and sulky pants Mo to see us home. Mo was pushing it around and we were still in with a chance until Mo decided to chip one round the corner into square legs hands 190-6. It was down to The Skipper disaster Baz going for the sweep shot down the leg side top edges it and it was obviously Muprhy's day what could of gone for 4 was taken in front of the sight screen well held Baz out for a very good 74 Bank now 198-7! With bank requiring 14 of 10 balls Pest had to go for it after hitting a boundary first up the excitement was unbearable then he was clean bowled Bank 202-8 with 6 balls to go. The skipper did the right thing and Callumn and Joel saw off the last few balls for the losing draw.

10 points to the Bank which I am pretty sure if you would of offered us that before the game we would of taken. Great team effort by everyone in the side, everybody was really supportive to one another and it was a thourghly enjoyable afternoon. If we play every game like we did on Saturday I am 100 percent certain we will finish mid table in this league and it will be deserved!!

Barnt Green v ABCC (u10's)

Astwood Bank U’10’s finally lost their unbeaten record as they went down to a much improved Barnt Green team.

Astwood Bank started strongly with Safi striking 2 big wickets with Ryan keeping it tight at the other end. Barnt Green batsman struck some hefty boundary blows with only Josh being able to slow the run rate with his left arm spin. Barnt Green scored an impressive 266/3.

The reply never got going against a very strong attack. Astwood Bank kept losing key wickets in the early stages. Jack and Eithan broke the sprint record over a dozen times as they rebuilt the innings.

With the match out of sight it was important Astwood Bank passed the total of 216. Needing 3 from the last over, Flynn clipped a ball through mid wicket for four to take the team past the important total which may well clinch the league title.

Astwood Bank couldn’t have fielded and bowled and better however the batting display was the worse of the season. Credit to Barnt Green for such an improved display.

A special mention for Henry who was simply awesome when keeping wicket.

The team travel to Feckenham on Sunday knowing a win should seal the East Worcestershire League Title.

Bewdley v ABCC (2nds)

After a disappointing loss at home to Belbroughton the previous week, the Bank 2nd's welcomed back captain Daws, batsmen Cyril Churchley and Winston the dog to the team as they travelled to the lovely ground of Bewdely.

Cyril was late which lead to everyone turning up at Bewdleys grounds at 13.05 ish, hardly ideal. This weeks warm up consisted of chasing Winston around the ground for a bit.
Daws lost the toss and was invited to have a bat on a typically flat and bouncy looking Bewdley track.

Run machines Perkins and Desmond opened up. Desmond was first to fall, continuing to struggle with his lack of long hair (Daws also struggling with this atm). He was bowled by a handy delivery from the paceman Beasley. Haslam was next in and out, sorn off by his brother who was umpiring. Churchley joined Perkins who continued his fine form with the bat and his glorious driving was on show again. Cyril Churchley struggled early on and Perkins got away with a couple. Perkins finally fell for a stylish 47. Pickle didn't last long and neither did Daws as both struggled against the wylie spin of Jones and Rock Hudson. Humby joined Churchley with the Bank precariously placed on 122-5 and the innings in the balance. Not to worry though as Cyril had found his feet by now and had started smashing the Bewdley attack around the park abley supported by Hummer. Cyril passed 50 and then the Bank soon passed 200. Hummer got away with one when he dollied one to cover but other than that batted beautifully, especially as it was his first game since last September. Cyril Churchley finished on 138* and Humby 47* with the Bank totalling an impressive 264-5 after their 50 overs.

A perfect tea was enjoyed by all, especially Perkins and Rocket who in particular seemed to gorge themselves excessively. Keep an eye on these 2 as they both disappeared to the toilet after.

Perkins and Pickle opened up against the ever green Dave Jones and Flack Both bowled tidy lines and lengths and Perky was unlucky not have Flack caught at 2nd slip, but Winston the Dog couldn't hold on to a very sharp chance. Watson then had Jones clean bowled as the ageing Bewdley batters struggled to cope with the pace and movement. After 13 overs and with Bewdley way behind the rate Tom May was introduced into the attack and bowled a nice little spell that also resulted in the wicket of Flack for 41 who was well caught by Perkins at square leg. The Banks number one spinner, Milo was also introduced and he soon caused all sorts of trouble and picked up a couple of wickets early on in his spell. The second Haslam replaced May and had the danger man O'Dell well caught behind by Daws. 6 down, behind the rate and with 15 overs left the losing draw was the only realistic target for Bewdley. Daws could have restriceted them to less than this but went for the jugular, Desmond was introduced to the attack and Watson recalled, Desmond claimed 2 late wickets to give the Bank a sniff but in the end Bewdley crept passed their losing draw target of 198 to finish on 201-8 with Milo the pick bowling 15-4-48-3.

A good game enjoyed by both teams and it was great to see Jonah, Scotty and of course Cyril again after going few years without playing Bewdley.

Astwood Bank maintained their position as league leaders as they recorded three important wins at Ombersley on Sunday morning.

In the first game Astwood Bank won by 42 runs beating the dangerous Old Swinford A. Aflie led the bowling attack with three wickets with Flynn hitting the boundary ropes a couple times to confirm the win.

The switch to the second pitch certainly helped the Astwood Bank batters in game two are they clocked up 278 in just 8 overs. Jake Browning was very brutal with any bad balls and hit 5 boundaries in one over. Ombersley batted hard in reply but Jake, Josh, Flynn and Joe were all in the wickets. Astwood Bank finally winning by 69 runs.

Coach Maddock kept the team on the toes for the final game against Cookley. On a difficult wicket Astwood Bank was restricted to just 242 however in reply Joe, Alfie and Flynn kept them to 222 with some tight bowling, a winning margin of 23 runs.

A special mention must be given to James Goddard who pulled off two fantastic catches during the morning. All the team are really developing well, bowling very straight, fielding fantastic and playing some great shots.

Weekend Preview

Having played basement boys last week, Bank again take on the league's bottom side. This time it's Romsley, who moved to the foot of the table following Redditch's losing draw to The Bank last weekend. Romsley, who were defeated by Nomads last weekend host The Bank with both sides recording just 1 win each this season. Yet another Banker will make his first appearance in the 1st XI with Mikey Desmond selected having scored over 350 runs in the 2nds so far this season.

The second team will be hoping for dry weather for the rest of the week as they prepare to host Belbroughton. The visitors currently sit in 8th place and the Bank, who sit in joint 2nd, will do their best to ensure there is no slip up on Saturday. With no third XI game this week due to a forfeited fixture, captain Paul Daws will be delighted to have no selection worries this week.

The fourth XI will also be strengthened by the third XI match being called off. The fourths currently sit in 6th place in the league, with 2 wins, 2 defeats and an abandonment. They travel to Bromyard, who are currently joint 2nd in the table and 23 points ahead of The Bank but have lost all of the games they have actually played?
